The Hudson Valley Regional Council (HVRC) recently received a Community Grant from the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute.

NYS-pollution-preventionIn 2016, HVRC will partner with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Poughkeepsie, Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency and the Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste to further efforts to reduce food waste and recover food to feed people in Dutchess and Ulster Counties. This project will decrease food waste in Ulster and Dutchess Counties through increased awareness about food waste, food insecurity and opportunities for food recovery and food donation.

The project will look to increase the number of food donors providing recovered food to social service and charitable organizations. The project will increase awareness of opportunities for food donations to reduce food waste and further the understanding of the laws and liability surrounding food donations. Ultimately this will reduce the amount of food waste going to disposal sites and will help provide food to those in need.
