Trash Free Waters Conference (2017)

On April 19, 2017 the Hudson Valley Regional Council held a Trash Free Waters Conference entitled ‘Marine Debris in Our Waterways’.

The conference provided an overview of debris that is polluting our waterways and oceans. Plastics are of particular concern because of their ubiquity, persistence and impacts on the environment and human health. Attendees learned about the concerns, challenges and solutions to reducing trash entering the Hudson River and our oceans. The event was geared towards water resources and materials management professionals, solid waste and recycling coordinators and local officials involved in managing municipal separate storm sewer systems. Presentations were made by USEPA and NYSDEC officials, as well as researchers and educators and can be reviewed below.

Funding for the event was provided through the Clean Water Act by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
