Welcoming New Staff: Evelyn Laferriere

Evelyn Laferriere (La-ferry-err) joined HVRC in January 2026. She works on the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program, as well as the NYSDEC Climate Smart Communities Program.  She provides support and technical assistance to communities working to reduce energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.  Evelyn recently earned her MS in Environmental Policy from Clarkson University, where she focused her research on environmental nonprofit communication.  At Clarkson, she served as the Sustainability Coordinator in the Institute for a Sustainable Environment.  In this role, she managed a team of nine student interns who led food waste, environmental education, meadow restoration, and other initiatives.  Additionally, she was trained as an Energy Navigator Volunteer through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County and assisted North Country communities and residents with energy efficiency & clean energy projects.  Evelyn also served on Indian Creek Nature Center’s board and assisted with environmental education events.

A Dutchess County native, Evelyn is excited to be back in the Hudson Valley.  She has spent the last ~6 years in the North Country (with a brief stint in Florida!).  A Golden Knight through and through, she received her BS in Environmental Science and Policy from Clarkson (Let’s Go Tech!).  Between her undergraduate degree and graduate school, she worked as a merchandise cast member at Disney World, was the Visitor Center Manager for the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, and served as an AmeriCorps Climate Action Leader in Canton, NY.  Evelyn is also a self-published author and loves to read and write novels.  You can often find her out walking in the woods, knitting/crocheting, playing her viola, or tending to her many, many houseplants.
